The server-processes configuration variable

server-processes is the number of processes started to serve IMAP/POP/HTTP clients. This is 1 by default. 1 is suitable for a small server, and for any server where Postgres runs on the same CPUs.

If postgres runs on a different host, the server-processes setting should be about as large as the number of CPUs available. We advise asking

server-processes is a number. Its default value is 1.

You can see its current value with the command aox show cf server-processes.
